Joe De Sena

Joe De Sena (alternative spelling Joseph DeSena , born January 2, 1969 ) is an American extreme athlete , author and entrepreneur. He is the CEO and Co-Founder of Death Race, Peak Race and Spartan Race .

Life

De Sena graduated from Cornell University . He started a swimming pool cleaning company when he was 13 . After graduating from university, he returned to his company and later sold it for US $ 500,000. Then he worked as a stockbroker. At the same time, he developed a sporting interest in long-distance races.

In 2000, De Sena was stuck in the snow during a 350-mile winter race in Québec . This experience prompted him to develop an extreme obstacle course together with Andy Weinberg . The first so-called "Death Race" took place in 2007 with eight participants, three of whom completed the race.

In 2009 De Sena developed the Spartan Race , the largest extreme obstacle course in the world with over 1 million starters annually.
