Rino Parenti

Efre "Rino" Parenti (born July 13, 1895 in Milan , † October 19, 1953 in Rome ) was an Italian politician of the PNF , president of the National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the Dopo Lavoro company sports organization. He was considered particularly fascist ("fascistissimo").

Life

Parenti came from a humble background, volunteered for the artillery at the beginning of the First World War , was highly decorated (including the medal for bravery ) and ended the war as a sergeant. From 1919 on he built up a group of thugs in Milan, which he led to the fascists. With these he took part in Benito Mussolini's March on Rome in October 1922 and was rewarded for this with appropriate political offices. He became the deputy of Achille Starace as party leader of Milan, led to sporting successes as president Inter Milan in basketball , became the regional president of the CONI and from 1939 to 1940 the president of the CONI, from 1940 to 1942 the president of the Opera Nazionale Dopolavoro . In this capacity he lectured a. a. with the German Reich Sports Leader Hans von Tschammer und Osten , in order to deepen German-Italian sports contacts during the war. From 1933 he was the President of the Administration of Milan, from 1934 to 1943 he was a member of the XXX Italian Parliament , from 1934 to 1942 a member of the PNF Party Council . 1942–1943 he was Prefect of Como , from 1943 to 1945 in the Repubblica Sociale Italiana (RSI) Prefect of Sondrio . On April 28, 1945 he was arrested by partisans and brought to justice and sentenced to 25 years in prison. The sentence was reduced to ten years in 1945, and in 1948 he fell under the amnesty law and was released. Even his pension rights have been restored. In the final years of the war he became addicted to morphine . He died of this addiction in 1953.
