Tzuong-Tsieng Moh (* 1940 in Anfuei , Republic of China ) is a Sino-American mathematician .

Life

Moh received his doctorate in 1968 with Shreeram Abhyankar at Purdue University (Galois Theory of one variable power series rings over algebraically closed fields of characteristic p.) And was then Assistant Professor there until 1971. In 1971/72 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study with Arne Beurling (where he proved a generalized deaf substitute, named after him and Beurling). In 1972 he became Assistant Professor and 1975 Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota . In 1975 he became an associate professor and 1983 professor at Purdue University.

He was visiting scholar at the RIMS in Kyoto (1986/87) and in 1992 at the MSRI , at Harvard University (1986) and at the National University of Taiwan and Beijing (1984) and is active in collaborations between Purdue University and Peking University.

He deals with commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, power series and Fourier analysis, but also with coding theory and cryptography (he holds several patents on the TTM, Tame Transformation Method). He deals with the Jacobi conjecture (drawn up by Ott-Heinrich Keller ), of which he proved special cases, the resolution of singularities according to Heisuke Hironaka and questions of embedding (theorem of Abhyankar and Moh (1975): Every embedding of the complex straight line L in the complex affine plane can be extended to an automorphism of the plane).

Zhang Yitang is one of his PhD students .

He was editor of a magazine for Chinese literature Square , was active in the US Peace Movement (Peace Union) and for liberalization in Taiwan, and his hobbies are collecting art, Go, chess and gardening.
