Boarding or capsizing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Entern oder capsize is a German game show broadcast by RTL from 2007.

Production and broadcast

The program has so far produced ten issues that were broadcast from June 29, 2007. Inspired by the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, this game show features a pirate and Caribbean scenario. The ten episode show is based on earlier programs of this type, such as Games without Borders and, above all, the popular Japanese program Takeshi's Castle , but had a pirate theme. Many games have been taken over and disarmed for light evening entertainment. The backdrop for the broadcast was created on a 16,000 square meter site of the Nobeo Studios in Hürth . The broadcast of the first program achieved an audience rating of 21.6% in the target group of 14 to 49 years. The total rate was 12% and 3.34 million viewers. The second edition was then only watched by 1.62 million viewers. The market share in the target group of 14 to 49 year olds fell to 16%. The total for the second edition was 2.42 million viewers and a market share of 8.5%.

procedure

In the show, three teams in different colors competed against each other, each led by a prominent person. The teams, normal sports or leisure clubs, each consist of 30 people. The program was moderated by Sonja Zietlow . The aim of the game is to steal the treasure from pirate captain Raff and his adlatus lubricant, played by Götz Otto and Carsten Brix. For this it is necessary to go through various games and tasks. As in the example from Japan, the ranks of the candidates are gradually thinning. The respective leaders of the three teams are also regularly faced with the choice of going through the games themselves, in order to be able to bring some of their eliminated team members back into the game if they are successful. The tasks were broad. For example, a "ravine" had to be crossed over a narrow, wobbly suspension bridge while Raff's henchmen tried to throw the candidate off balance.

final

New teams and celebrities competed in the first nine programs, with one team always winning the program. The winning team received € 3,000. In the tenth episode, the final took place, in which the three teams competed against each other, which had the most candidates available for their victory. The profit in the final was € 30,000.

The victory went to the Wild Bobbyz from Schmelz, the Bobbycar drivers from Saarland.

reception

criticism

The critical reaction was largely negative. Spiegel Online describes the program as an "official humiliation show in which ex-celebrities and extreme sports fans fight for pirate treasure under humiliating conditions". In addition, the tasks would be “dangerous exercises” and “cruel self-exposure”. Bild am Sonntag describes boarding or capsizing as a “show to make others ashamed of” and recommends “immediately sinking the trashy show with its cheap scenery in the nearest sea”.

Odds

After the first episode had a market share of 20 percent, the audience ratings continued to decline in the following editions.
