Getting Tough - The Race (proper spelling GETTING TOUGH - The Race ) is a since 2012 annually on the first Saturday in December in Rudolstadt taking place extreme obstacle course .

description

During the race, 24 kilometers of trail with over 1000 meters of altitude as well as 150 obstacles (including mud seals, escalating walls , monkey bars ) have to be overcome. The last 100 obstacles are arranged on the last 3 kilometers in the so-called "Killingfield". The runners have to conquer these in order to reach the finish area via the “Walk of Fame”. The race is made more difficult by numerous water hazards (including diving under tree trunks in the outdoor pool, wading for minutes in the water, crossing the Saale ), combined with generally icy temperatures in December. It has been referred to variously as "the toughest obstacle course in Europe".

600 runners started the first run in 2011. In 2016 there was a mass start with over 3000 runners. About 1/3 of them had to give up during the race. Every participant who finishes the race is personally greeted at the finish by the organizers Michael Kalinowski and Markus Ertelt . After the race there is an after race party in the evening.

The top 10 placement qualifies for the OCR European Championships.

In 2015, the run was voted the overall winner of the Trophy Runners Awards as “Best Obstacle Run 2015”.

In 2016, the run was expanded to include the “Sprint @ Night” event, where the “Killingfield” is run at night as a short distance. Since 2017 there has been an additional summer run in Mellrichstadt with "Beat the summer" and since 2019 in Würzburg and Ingolstadt . An additional summer run is planned in Oberhof for 2020 .
