Romanesque hall church Rödelwitz

The Protestant village church Rödelwitz is located in the Rödelwitz district of the Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel community in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

history

The village church was mentioned in an Orlamünder document in 1194 . The church at the nearby Schauenforst Castle was mentioned in 1533. It is a Romanesque hall church and the smallest with a ridge in the Hexengrund . 1694–1707 the ceiling of the church was widened. Galleries , pulpit and baptism were built in or procured. The pointed arch separates the nave from the chancel with a wooden ceiling. Grooved fighters on the north side of the pointed arch are of Romanesque origin.

The organ comes from Adam Eifert from Stadtilm . Due to their installation on the gallery, the entrance had to be via an external wooden covered staircase on the south side.

The three-nail crucifix and the figure of Bishop Boniface are significant in terms of art history , as are the remains of a winged altar .

The glass window behind the altar was created by glassmaker Karl Völkel in 1975.

In 2002–2003 a renovation took place inside and outside. The music- making angel on the ceiling, which was painted over until 1973, has been brought back into focus.
