Christian David Breithaupt

Christian David Breithaupt (born December 15, 1770 in Catharinau ; † April 15, 1854 near Angermünde ) was a German Protestant theologian and educator.

Life

The son of a pastor in the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen was taught first by his father and then at the school in Saalfeld . He studied theology as well as oriental and occidental languages at the universities of Jena and Leipzig . In 1798 he became rector in Graefenthal . In 1814 he took over the pastor's position in Großgeschwenda .

In 1815 he followed a call as vice-principal at the large city school in Rostock . In 1810 he switched to the Greifswald city school as rector , which was developed into a grammar school during his tenure. In 1836 he retired because of differences with the Prussian state supervisory authorities.

He died in 1854 with his younger son near Angermünde.
