The Protestant village church Eckolstädt is in the Eckolstädt district of the city of Bad Sulza in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Dorndorf-Eckolstädt in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The previous church was a wooden church. Parts of the current church date back to the 11th and 12th centuries. In 1994/95 the old entrance with two Romanesque arched windows was found on the north side . Around 1348 the church was extended to the east with the Gothic choir .

There were several fires.

The classicist furnishings date from the reconstruction from 1808 to 1810. The interior decoration is from 1905 and 1994 to 1997. Three-storey galleries extend below the barrel vault . The upper gallery is all around. The pulpit altar has Ionic columns and pilasters .

The organ was built in 1817 by Christian Friedrich Poppe from Stadtroda .

The bells were destroyed by the fires. To prevent this, a bell house was placed next to the church in the 19th century.
