Church in Ferchland

The village church Ferchland is the evangelical church of Ferchland on the Elbe (Saxony-Anhalt).

history

Half-timbered building from the east

The church stands in the center of the village on Genthiner Straße on a free square.

The nave is a cross - shaped half-timbered building with a hipped roof . The church tower, which consists of plastered masonry, was built over the western cross arm. It is provided with a four-sided monopitch roof on which a smaller clock floor is placed, which in turn has a six-sided pointed hood. An iron crown is attached over the hood, which indicates the patronage of the Prussian king. While the roof of the nave is covered with tiles, the roof skin of the tower elements is made of slate.

Above the church portal is the inscription: “By God's grace, after the church in the village was gradually torn down by the Elbe, it was owned by the most noble and powerful Friedrich Wilhelm, King in Prussia and Elector of Brandenburg, of the Holy Roman Empire ore -Kämmerer etc.-, under the direction of the War and Domain Chamber President Privy Councilor and Ambt Captain Christoph Katten, Blessed Ambtmann Joh. Wilh. Förster and the pastor Fr. Christian Berends built from scratch by the master builder August Martini. Anno 1729. "

The church in its present form was built in 1729 by the builder August Martini. The old church, which formerly stood directly on the banks of the Elbe, was destroyed when the river moved. In 1945 it suffered severe damage, particularly on the north face, as a result of the war. These were remedied in the years 1953 to 1955. The church service room runs over the north-south wing, except for the west side the walls are provided with galleries.
