Görlsdorf Church

The village church Görlsdorf is a field stone church in the Vierlinden district of Görlsdorf in the Brandenburg district of Märkisch-Oderland .

Görlsdorf, originally Gerlachsdorf , was founded by monks of the Augustinian canons from Naumburg am Bober in Silesia. Like the Knights of the Templar Order in the first third of the 13th century, they were summoned by the Silesian Duke Heinrich I (also Henry the Bearded ) and given land as gifts.

In a directory from 1250, all existing parishes are listed: for Görlsdorf there are 63 Hufe of land with a church and 4 Parish Hufe . At the end of the 14th century the monks sold their property.

The art historical literature dates the village church to the 14th century. The church is a massive rectangular stone building with a massive, fortified cross tower. While the stone blocks were initially walled up regularly, the higher parts of the church and tower have an irregular walling - the so-called Cyclops construction . On the south side you can see a historical gate that served as an entrance until the middle of the 19th century. The windows were structurally changed in 1854, remnants of the old windows can still be seen on the east side.

The two bells from 1559 and 1577, cast by Sebastian Preger from Frankfurt (Oder) , are still preserved today.

Shortly before the end of the war in April 1945, the church was badly damaged. The reconstruction took place in the 1950s. The tall ivy on the tower is striking.

Today the church belongs to the parish Lietzen-Neuentempel in the parish of Oderland-Spree of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .
