The Protestant village church Hohndorf is located in Hohndorf , a district of the city of Annaburg in the district of Wittenberg .

history

The listed building was erected until 1885 in place of a previous structure, which was donated in 1620 by the Saxon Electress Hedwig of Denmark . The foundation stone for the new church was laid in 1883. A painted inscription plaque above the inner portal of the church reminds us of the previous building with inscriptions about the foundation and inauguration.

building

The church building is a neo-Gothic brick building with a hall, a square west tower and a polygonal choir . Above the entrance there is a plastic coat of arms of the Saxon elector.

Furnishing

Some of the current equipment still comes from the previous building. The hexagonal sandstone baptism with a baluster base and fittings has been preserved from 1620 . Two brass chandeliers with inscriptions and coats of arms as well as two sandstone reliefs also date from this year. A wooden lecture cross with the crucified Christ painted on it comes from the end of the 18th century. The church's coffin bier is dated to 1789. The altarpiece was made by Wilhelm Wollschläger in Torgau in 1885. A representation of the Lord's Supper can be seen on the central panel below the crucified. There are allegories of faith and fidelity on the wings. The Geissler organ is the only organ in the region where the air supply for the pipes is still done manually.
