The church

The Protestant village church of Meura is located in the municipality of Meura in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

history

The foundation stone for the construction of the church , which still stands today, was laid on April 12, 1728. Nothing is known about the previous church. The building drawing was made by the land auditor Joh. Michael König from Rudolstadt. The first service was held in the nave on September 5, 1728 . In 1731 the construction was completed and on July 30th the church consecration took place. Such an event drew not only the locals under its spell, but also many residents of the surrounding communities. The tradition of the parish fair has been maintained for many years by the Meierschein Kirmesverein eV in the form of the annual fair.

Court painter Andreas Zwäde from Rudolstadt and sculptor Jeremias Daniel from Leutenberg designed the interior of the church in the style of the peasant baroque . In the church you can still see the original ceiling paintings from that time due to the quality work . No renovation work has been necessary so far. On May 12, 1833, the big bell cracked when it was rung and had to be cast over. In this case, too, there was financial aid from medical and oil dealers .

In the spring of 1993 a comprehensive renovation of the organ was necessary. It is believed that the organ builder Kummer from Erlau in Thuringia created the instrument. He repaired the organ in 1766 after it was badly damaged by lightning.
