The Pennewitz village church is located in the Pennewitz district of the city of Ilmenau in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish of Gehren in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The church in Pennewitz is the youngest church in the Ilm district, determined the statisticians. The foundation stone was laid in 1865. The inauguration was on December 15, 1867. The church has a rectangular nave with a retracted choir and a semicircular east end. The west tower with its pointed helmet carried three bells until the First World War , they had to be melted down during the war and were later replaced.

Arched windows have been built one above the other in the nave in order to have more daylight in the house and on the galleries. The first gallery is all around. The organ has been built into it. The nave has a flat ceiling. In the chancel has stained glass windows installed. The portal with round arches on the south side is roofed and provided with a cross.

In 1993 a roof and tower renovation was carried out with the following supplies . From 1999 to 2001 an external renovation could be carried out. The historic Friedhofsweg was redesigned from a new perspective. In 2002 the electrical system was renewed.
