Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altenfeld

The Altenfeld village church stands on a slope inclined to the west in the eastern area of Altenfeld in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Neustadt am Rennsteig in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The church is octagonal and was from 1738 to 1741 in Baroque style as beschieferter half-timbered building erected. The church tower has a square floor plan. It stands on the west side with a hood , lantern , bulb and weather vane .

The bell house on the east side of the cemetery was built in 1751, the bell was cast in Coburg in 1751 and 1917 .

Inside there are two circumferential galleries with a built-in pulpit altar . The organ brochure is from 1776. The organ has two manuals with a pedal. It is a work by Johann Stephan Schmaltz from Arnstadt . The baptismal font comes from a donor. The tall, narrow rectangular windows framed in lead glass are partially decorated with Christian pictures in reverse glass painting.

In 1891 the door was renovated. After shelling by the US Army badly damaged it was renewed in April 1945th

In 1962 and 1963 the roof of the nave and the tower were re-covered with slate. In 1966 the interior was renovated.

The building has been a listed building since 1983 . The church was elected Church of the Month by the Foundation for the Preservation of Church Monuments in Germany (KiBa) in November 2013 .
