Church view

The village church Rothenstein is the Protestant church of the community Rothenstein in the administrative community Südliches Saaletal in the Saale-Holzland-Kreis in Thuringia .

history

In 786 the place was first mentioned in a document. The nave was built in 1437, the late Gothic choir in 1506 and the wooden church tower after a major fire in 1553.

Art monuments

In the church is the tombstone for Pastor Johann Friedrich Vulpius (1644–1715), great-grandfather of Goethe's Christiane .
