Katherine Cassavetes (* 24. June 1906 in New York City , New York as Katherine Demetre ; † 29. March 1983 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

life and career

Katherine Cassavetes was born in New York in 1906. She was married to businessman Nicholas John Cassavetes until her death. The two became the parents of filmmaker John Cassavetes on December 9, 1929 and are the grandparents of Nick Cassavetes (* 1959), Xan Cassavetes (* 1965) and Zoe R. Cassavetes (* 1970). She is also a great - grandmother of four .

In 1971 she played the mother of Seymour Cassel in a supporting role under the direction of her son in Minni and Moskowitz , with her daughter-in-law Gena Rowlands playing the other leading role. Her grandchildren also appeared in front of the camera in this comedic film drama. Three years later she appeared in The Third Brings the Death of Director Howard Avedis and A Woman Under the Influence of Her Son. Her daughter-in-law and Peter Falk played the main roles in the latter . Katherine Cassavetes, like her granddaughter Xan, played a minor role.
