Zoe Rowlands Cassavetes (born June 29, 1970 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Zoe Rowlands Cassavetes was born in Los Angeles in 1970, the youngest of three children. Her parents are former filmmaker John Cassavetes and actress Gena Rowlands . Her siblings Nick and Alexandra "Xan" Katherine also work in the film industry. Her grandmother was Katherine Cassavetes , who starred as an actress in three of four films directed by her son John. Zoe Cassavetes is aunt of four and the sister-in-law of Heather Wahlquist .

As a baby, Zoe Cassavetes starred in the 1971 comedic drama Minnie and Moskowitz as her siblings. It wasn't until 1991 that Cassavetes was next in front of the camera. She was given a role as a waitress in Ted & Venus in which Bud Cort had a leading role, as well as a supporting role with James Brolin and Carol Kane . The following year, she was seen alongside Michael Caine in The Fun Begins . In 1993 she got a role again as a waitress in The Thing Called Love by Peter Bogdanovich with River Phoenix in the lead role. Then Zoe Cassavetes worked in the two short films Ciao LA and Lick the Star and decided to work behind the camera from then on.

In 2000 she directed the short film Men Make Women Crazy Theory . In 2007 Cassavetes presented her comedy Broken Englisch at the Sundance Film Festival . In this comedy film , Parker Posey and Drea de Matteo as well as Tim Guinee were in front of the camera, with Zoe Cassavetes writing the script and being the director. She was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for the screenplay and received the jury award at the Philadelphia Film Festival.
