Volkmannsdorf village church

The Protestant village church Volkmannsdorf is located in the community Volkmannsdorf in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

history

The year 1775 above the entrance indicates the completion of today's village church . The historical documents show that a previous church existed.

Volkmannsdorf belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar until 1918 , which also left traces in the church design, for example in the sober painting of the church and the symbolism. The only evidence of this time is a tetragram , surrounded by a ray of sunshine above the pulpit altar . The carved altar from the second half of the 15th century, which is distributed in individual parts over the church, forms a contrast . The main part stands on the right in front of the triumphal arch and contains the figures of Saints Nicholas, Agnes, Maria with the child, Catherine and Antonius. The wings are attached to the left of the altar and also show figures of saints. The former lower part of the predella was retrofitted above the altar table . It shows a vivid communion scene .

The tower

In the church tower above the altar hang two bronze bells . One of them dates from 1795.
