Walkendorf village church
The Walkendorf village church is a medieval village church in Walkendorf in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The parish Walkendorf belongs to the Rostock provost, Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

The church was built in the second half of the 13th century as a rectangular brick building with a field stone base on a double-square floor plan. The church is accessed through a portal in the west gable, the altar area is on the east gable. The two square bays of the church are spanned by a cross vault. The east gable was structurally changed and increased in the late 18th century. To the north of the church there is an old sacristy , to the south a Gothic chapel was added in 1861. The church has no tower, instead there is a free-standing wooden belfry in the surrounding cemetery .
The walls of the nave and the vaulted ceiling bear numerous wall paintings from the 14th century, which were painted over in the late 17th century and exposed again during a renovation in the 1960s, especially in the eastern yoke. In addition to Christ and the apostles, the wall paintings show various Old and New Testament scenes.
The carved altar of the church dates from the second half of the 15th century. The central motif of the central shrine is a multi-figure crucifixion scene, which is flanked on both sides by two rows of saints. A total of over 40 figures can be seen on the altar. The outside of the altar wings are painted with depictions of the Passion from the early 18th century.
The pulpit of the church dates from 1754. The west gallery was also moved in in the 18th century, on it a small organ of more recent date is placed.
