Doris Bühler-Niederberger

Doris Bühler-Niederberger (* 1950 ) is a Swiss sociologist and an internationally known expert on the sociology of childhood . Her work focuses on sociological research on growing up and v. a. the relevant professions and institutions and social inequalities.

They received his doctorate in 1982 at the University of Zurich Dr. phil. and completed his habilitation (after studying as a visiting scholar at the University of California in San Francisco) in 1991, also in Zurich. In 1994 she became professor for the sociology of the family, youth and education at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . She has been a senior professor there since 2019.

Bühler-Niederberger was the spokesperson for the Childhood Sociology section of the German Sociological Society (DGS). She is also past president of Research Committee 53 Sociology of Childhood in the International Sociological Association (ISA) .
