Doris Prechel (* 1963 ) is a German ancient orientalist .

Life

From 1983 to 1989 she studied history, political science and modern German literature at the University of Konstanz (1989: Magister Artium - title of the master's thesis : "Magical figures in the Babylonian-Assyrian and Hittite incantation rituals"). From 1990 to 1993 she was a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin . After receiving his doctorate in 1993 as Dr. phil. - Topic of the dissertation: “The goddess Ishara. A contribution to the ancient oriental religious history ”- she was a research assistant at the Ancient Near Eastern Institute of the University of Leipzig from 1994 to 1996. From 1996 to 2001 she was a university assistant at the Department of Languages ​​and Cultures of the Middle East - Assyriology - at Heidelberg University . In 2001 she was visiting professor for ancient oriental philology at the University of Mainz . In 2001 she represented the professorship for ancient oriental philology in Mainz . Since 2001 she has been Professor of Ancient Near Eastern Philology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
