Doroteo Vasconcelos Vides

Doroteo Vasconcelos Vides (born February 6, 1803 in Sensuntepeque, El Salvador , † March 10, 1883 in Ciudad San Vicente ) was Supremo Director of El Salvador from February 7, 1848 to March 1, 1851 .

Life

Doroteo Vasconcelos was a member of the Partido Liberal . On March 5, 1828, Vasconcelos became Minister General of El Salvador in the cabinet of Mariano Prado Baca . In 1830 he was a member of parliament and chairman of the Central American Confederation .

In 1832 he became a war prosecutor and governor of Sacatepéquez in Guatemala. In 1833 he came to El Salvador where he had numerous businesses. In 1836 he became party leader of the Partido Liberal . In 1840 Eugenio Aguilar went into exile in Panama. After Francisco Morazán in San José on 15 September 1842 firing squad had been, Eugenio Aguilar embarked to Europe and came in late 1845 to El Salvador back. On December 4, 1847 he won the election to Supremo Director from 1848 to 1850. At the end of this term he handed over his office for four days from February 1 to February 4, 1850 to Ramón Rodríguez.

As Supremo Director , he had the remains of José Francisco Morazán Quezada transferred to the Cementerio de los Ilustres in San Salvador.

As Supremo Director , Vasconcelos supported insurgents who wanted to overthrow José Rafael Carrera Turcios . In 1851 he concluded a mutual assistance pact with Juan Nepomuceno Fernández Lindo y Zelaya , who was just Supremo Director of Honduras, the armies of El Salvador and Honduras invaded Guatemala and were defeated on February 2, 1851 by the Guatemalan army at the Battle of San José La Arada beaten. After this defeat, Vasconcelos resigned from the office of Supremo Director and retired from politics.
