Life, work and distinction

Dorothea Freudenberg initially trained as a welfare worker and worked in youth welfare. From 1955 to 1960 she studied psychology in Freiburg and Munich. From 1960 to 1969 she worked - initially at a research station - as a qualified psychologist at the neurological department (with epilepsy outpatient clinic) of the Heidelberg University Children's Hospital (with Philipp Bamberger ). From 1970 to 1993 she worked at the clinic for children and adolescents of the Kehl-Kork Epilepsy Center (with Ansgar Matthes and Rolf Kruse ). In 1971 she did her doctorate with a psychodiagnostic examination of children with pycnolepsy (absenteeism epilepsy of school children) to become Dr. phil. This work, like an earlier study, was published as a book.

Freudenberg is also the author of a brochure with educational advice for parents of children with epilepsy, which had nine editions up to 1996 and was then continued by other authors.

In 1996 she was awarded honorary membership of the German Section of the ILAE (since 2004: German Society for Epileptology ).
