Dorotheenstrasse 1

The house Dorotheenstrasse 1 in Dorotheenstrasse in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe was, among other things, the district administration office before it was demolished in 1902. Today the Church of the Redeemer stands in its place .

In 1708, CL Neuhof built the corner house (corner of Löwengasse 17). Just like the Sinclair House opposite, the house was plastered from the start and stood out from the unplastered half-timbered houses on the newly created Dorotheenstrasse. In 1712, Landgravine Dorothea von Hessen-Homburg (1676–1721) acquired the property that was also referred to as Dorotheenburg at this time . Johann Isaak von Gerning acquired the house in 1803 and used it as a residence until 1807. Johann Isaak von Germing was a privy councilor , diplomat, writer, collector and friend of Goethe .

After him, Wilhelm Gremp von Freudenstein (* December 20, 1819; † June 1, 1906) acquired the house and was the first Homburg postmaster to operate the Thurn-und-Taxis-Post station .

In 1867, one year after the annexation of Kurhessen and Hessen-Homburg by the Kingdom of Prussia, the house became the seat of the district administration of the newly created Obertaunuskreis . The district administration was still manageable at that time. In addition to District Administrator Constantin von Briesen , his three employees were also accommodated in the house. Therefore, the house was also used by the local cadastral and tax office, the country hunt, the forest ranger and the post office. In 1883 the district administration moved to the new district office (today Louisen-Center ) in Louisenstrasse .

In 1902 the house was torn down to make way for the Church of the Redeemer. The forester's house at Tannenwaldallee 16 was built for the head forester. Kaiser Wilhelm made the new building possible with a grant of 50,000 marks. The forester's house is a listed building. The other departments were distributed to other houses.
