Dorothy Kathleen Gulliver (born September 6, 1908 in Salt Lake City , Utah , † May 23, 1997 in Valley Center , California ) was an American actress . Her 50-year career includes almost 100 appearances in films and television series.

Life

Dorothy Gulliver began her acting career in 1926 in the silent film The Winking Idol . In the following years she established herself as a supporting actress in a large number of other silent film productions. Unlike many other actors, Gulliver made the successful transition to talkies. She was seen in several westerns and serials in the 1930s . In 1933 Gulliver played an uncredited extras as a theater goer in King Kong and the White Woman .

Although Gulliver was mostly only seen in small supporting roles from the 1940s, she remained active as an actress until 1976 and therefore exactly 50 years. In addition, Gulliver was also seen as a guest actress in television series from the 1950s. She had one last major film appearance in 1968 as Florence in the drama Faces .

Dorothy Gulliver was married to the assistant director and later father of Danny DeVito , Chester DeVito, from 1926 until the divorce in 1932 . In her second marriage, she was married to Jack Procter from 1947 until his death in 1976. In the 1990s, Danny DeVito tried his stepmother to make a comeback actress for roles in Batman Returns and Mars Attacks! to move, which she refused. Gulliver died on May 23, 1997 at the age of 88 in Valley Center, California, where she had moved from Los Angeles in 1988 . She does not have a burial site, her body was cremated and scattered in an undisclosed location.
