Dorothy Hewett

Dorothy Coade Hewett (born May 21, 1923 in Perth , † August 25, 2002 ) was an Australian writer.

Hewett studied at Perth College and the University of Western Australia , where she also worked as an English teacher in the 1950s and 1960s.

Hewett was married several times. Her first marriage to Lloyd Davies was divorced after just one year in 1959, then she lived with Les Flood and had three sons with him. She had two daughters with her last husband, Merv Lilley.

Hewett published several volumes of poetry and dramas. Her only novel, Bobbin Up , published in 1959, is shaped by her experiences as a factory worker and her membership in the Communist Party .
