Dorrit Moussaieff (born January 12, 1950 in Jerusalem ) is an Israeli - Icelandic businesswoman. She has been the wife of Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson , the President of Iceland from 1996 to 2016 , since 2003 .

Career

The daughter of Shlomo Moussaieff, a jeweler from Bukhara in Uzbekistan, and of Alisa with Austrian-Jewish roots, grew up in the Bucharian quarter of Jerusalem. When she was thirteen, the family moved to London . Moussaieff suffered from a reading and spelling disorder and was therefore taught at home. She learned the English , Hebrew , German , French and Icelandic languages. In her parents' business, she completed an apprenticeship as a jeweler. She was also involved in the planning of an office building in Canary Wharf , a tourism project in Northern Cyprus , and published columns in the British society magazine Tatler . Her first marriage to Neil Zarach was divorced.

On May 14, 2003, after three years of acquaintance, she married the then Icelandic President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson . She received Icelandic citizenship in July 2006. In 2016 it was brought into connection with the Panama Papers .
