Dorrit Weixler (born March 27, 1892 in Berlin ; † November 30, 1916 there ) was a German actress of the silent film era .

Life

Dorrit Weixler first appeared on the screen in short films in 1911. In 1913 she began her successful collaboration with silent film director Franz Hofer at Luna Film. He presented her in his films as an outrageous freak , repeatedly in a sailor suit , as a cheeky badger who is only tamed by the right man. It was in these roles that she quickly became popular. Her partner was among others Ernst Lubitsch .

In 1915 she moved to Oliver Film, but her roles did not change significantly. At the end of May 1916 she was on stage for the first time in the Theater am Nollendorfplatz as part of a “Dorrit Weixler Week”. In front of a sold out house, she collapsed while doing a sketch with a dance interlude. The reasons were assumed to be lovesickness or a nervous problem. The shooting of a new film had to be canceled due to her poor health. Because of her addiction to morphine , she was taken to a sanatorium a little later, where she hanged herself . On December 4, 1916, she was buried in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .

The actress Grete Weixler was her younger sister.
