Dossenberger rectory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The so-called Dossenberger parsonage in the Krumbach district of Billenhausen is a very large and particularly richly designed parsonage for the area of Central Swabia. The rectory, built in 1773, is named after its builder Joseph Dossenberger . Today the building houses the parish office and a parish hall as well as the office of the Allgäu-Swabian Music Association (ASM) .

history

The rectory, which is about 100 m south of the Billenhauser church in a large garden, was built in 1773 by order of Abbot Wilhelm III. Schoellhorn of the Ursberg abbey built by the master builder Joseph Dossenberger in place of a previous building. In the period between 1978 and 1983 the building was completely refurbished because it was in very poor condition before these measures were carried out - the biggest problem was the leaking roof.

Building description

The building is a stately two-storey hipped mansard roof in the late Baroque style, which is characterized by a high central projection on the side facing the street. The architectural painting, which is structured in perspective, gives the building a particularly magnificent and castle-like appearance. This splendor can be explained by the fact that the client of the building, the abbot of the Ursberg Monastery, often stayed in Billenhausen, since the current parish church of the place was a famous pilgrimage church at the time. The color scheme and design of the facade painting was reconstructed in the course of the renovation based on similar models and a picture that was found in the village chronicle from the second half of the 19th century.

In the interior of the building, the spacious entrance hall with the staircase deserves special mention. In addition to the mirrored ceilings and the floorboards, furniture, the stoves and the door leaves have been preserved in the rooms. The painting of the doors, which was designed according to the use of the rooms, was done by Jakob Fröschle in 1781.

  1. The actual parish church of Billenhausen, St. Gordian and Epimachus, which stood in the west of the village near the Kammel , was demolished in 1807.

Pfarrstadel

In addition to the vicarage, there is also a vicarage on the property, which dates from the same time as the vicarage. The renovation of this building was completed in 1997.
