Double (singer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Double (proper spelling: DOUBLE) (born March 14, 1975 in Niigata , Niigata Prefecture , Japan ) is the stage name of the Japanese R&B singer Takako Hirasawa ( Japanese 平 澤 貴子 , Hirasawa Takako ). Originally Double was a music group with her sister Sachiko Hirasawa ( 平 澤 幸 子 , Hirasawa Sachiko ), but after she passed away in May 1999, Takako took the band name as her stage name. In addition, Double is awarded the title Queen of R&B because she was considered the first group or person to bring American R&B to Japan.

Life

After Sachiko, the older sister, returned from a trip to America , she introduced her younger sister Takako to the music of Mary J. Blige . This inspired the music video Real Love from 1992. Since then, both have decided to get into the music industry as R&B artists.

Takako herself says that if she didn't have her life as a singer, she would likely work in the makeup industry as a model or hairdresser .

Career

On February 4, 1998, Double made their debut as a band . They released their debut single For Me , which debuted at # 89 on the Oricon charts in Japan. After further publications, however, it was not until 1999 that the single Shake first entered the charts at number 21. They signed their record deal with the Japanese record company For Life Music .

Before they released their debut album Crystal on June 2, 1999, Sachiko died on May 21, 1999 of a brain tumor . The album then debuted at number 2 on the charts and was one of the first successes of modern R&B music in Japan. This later influenced debuting artists such as Ai , Crystal Kay and, after a change of image, the successful Japanese artist Namie Amuro .

Of course, she gave no advertising contracts or appearances for the album after her sister's death. She only came back to the music industry in June 2000, she made the band name her stage name and released her first solo single U , which was produced by Brian Alexander Morgan (he also produced for Usher and Mariah Carey , among others ). Her first solo album followed on October 29, 2000, which she also released in an English version on April 25, 2001, in Japan.

In the course of her career she released other studio albums and is also known as DJ Lilly aka Double , as a DJ in Japan.
