Douglass Montgomery

Robert Douglass Montgomery , also Kent Douglass (born October 29, 1907 in Los Angeles ; California - † July 23, 1966 in Norwalk , Connecticut ) was an American actor.

Life

Douglass Montgomery began his stage acting career and was discovered and signed by MGM . The handsome blond actor in 1930 his first film role in Paid directed by Sam Wood on the side of Joan Crawford . In his first film he appeared under the name Kent Douglass. In 1933 he appeared in the literary film Four Sisters by George Cukor for the first time as Douglass Montgomery and was henceforth loaned by MGM to various studios. Montgomery usually played the second male lead and was often seen in naive, youthful roles. Although he was a well-known actor in the 1930s, he did not make the breakthrough to become a big star.

He was active in Hollywood until 1939, when he joined the Canadian Army to take part in World War II . Until the end of the war in 1945 he did not make any films and returned to film in England . He starred opposite Michael Redgrave and John Mills in Anthony Asquith's war drama The Way to the Stars . He did not return to the USA until the early 1950s, but could no longer gain a foothold in Hollywood. He played in television films until 1957 and withdrew from the film and television business. Montgomery died of cancer in 1966 at the age of 58 .
