Doumeira is an island less than a square kilometer northeast of Djibouti near the Bab al-Mandab in the Red Sea . Together with the much smaller island of Kallîda , 250 meters to the east, it forms the Doumeira Islands. Together with Cape Ras Doumeira, 500 meters south-west, with a hill on the mainland, the island has been the subject of a border conflict between Eritrea and Djibouti since Eritrea's independence from Ethiopia in 1993 .

From the point of view of Djibouti, the island belongs to the Alaili Dadda district of the Obock region and forms the northernmost part of the country.
