Dove is an impact crater south of the lunar front , east of Spallanzani crater and west of Lockyer . The crater is heavily eroded and overlaid by the Dove C secondary crater in its southern part .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German physicist Heinrich Wilhelm Dove .
