Downtown Records is a Swiss music label specializing in jazz and piano jazz and was founded in 1983.
history
Downtown Records was founded in 1983 when four young Bernese jazz musicians recorded their first LP and produced it themselves. Since that time, numerous recordings have been released on the label, which is still independent and is domiciled in Burgdorf BE near Bern. The label specializes in traditional jazz, especially the classic jazz piano styles and especially the Harlem Stride Piano . Well-known Swiss musicians and bands were produced, but also some international soloists. The label's motto is: "Swing's the thing!".
The Downtown group also includes two sub-labels, "Strideomania" (for piano jazz) and "Castletown Records". Downtown is also active in the field of jazz education, organizing and supporting concerts and festivals.
