Neville Dickie

George Neville Dickie (born January 1, 1937 in Durham ) is a British boogie-woogie and stride pianist.

Dickie had piano lessons from the age of eleven and began performing at the age of 16. After completing two years of military service with the RAF , he toured the north in a quartet that he led with Alan Harrison. In 1958 Dickie left his native Durham and moved to London, where he performed in various pubs and with the Cannonball Band . Doreen Davies, who at the time ran the broadcaster BBC Radio 2 , discovered him at an audition for the BBC and promoted his career; he was involved in hundreds of BBC Radio broadcasts in the years that followed. Dickie also made numerous records, including duets with the pianist Louis Mazetier . In 1969 Dickie had a Top 40 hit with the single "Robin's Return", which reached # 33 on the UK singles chart. His album Back to Boogie (1975) sold over 100,000 copies. Since 1976 he has toured North America repeatedly. In 1985 Dickie founded the band Rhythmakers.In the field of jazz , he was involved in 83 recording sessions between 1966 and 2008, in addition to his solo productions, recordings by Brian Green's Dixie Kings , Carl Spencer's Washboard Kings , Brian White & Magna Jazz Band , John Petters, Alain Marquet / Bent Persson Melody Boys , Alan Elsdon and The Hot Five Jazzmakers .
