Bent Persson

Bent Persson (born September 6, 1947 in Karlskrona ) is a Swedish jazz trumpeter and cornet player , best known for his multi-layered interpretation of the transcriptions of early solos by Louis Armstrong .

Life

Persson, who grew up in Stockholm , has played Dixieland and Swing with the Stockholm Stompers since 1968 . From 1976 to 1979 he received trumpet lessons from Claes Strömblad. Between 1977 and 1981 he studied at the SMI Stockholms Musikpedagogiska Institute .

With the Maggie's Blue Five around Tomas Örnberg, he devoted himself to the early music of Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet as a teenager . He then played in the Weatherbird Jazz Band with pianist Ulf Johansson, with whom he recorded five LPs with Louis Armstrong's 50 Hot Choruses for Cornet between 1975 and 1982 , where he interpreted Armstrong's transcribed solos that were published by Melrose Brothers in 1927 from Armstrong's long-lost wax cylinder recordings were. He also played with the Kustbandet , for which he also arranged and with whom he also appeared internationally. Since 1985 he toured with the Swedish Jazz Kings . He also plays works by the young Duke Ellington with the up-and-coming big band Jazzin Topzies . He has also recorded with Maxine Sullivan , Bob Wilber , Joya Sherrill , Keith Nichols, and Eva Taylor .

He also teaches the history of jazz at Uppsala University and the Royal Music Academy and passes on his knowledge at summer courses in Visings and Lenk .
