Alan Elsdon

Alan R. Elsdon (born October 15, 1934 in Chiswick , London , † May 2, 2016 ) was a British trumpeter and flugelhorn player of traditional jazz .

Life

Alan Elsdon studied a. a. trumpet with Tommy McQuater and led his own Riverside Jazz Band in the early 1950s . His professional career began in December 1954 in Cy Laurie's band , in which he stayed until the spring of 1956. During his military service he was a member of a band in the Royal Air Force and continued with Graham Stewart (1957-1959). From 1959 to 1961 he played with Terry Lightfoot , there a. a. alongside Kid Ory and Red Allen . Elsdon then led his own formation from 1961 to the 1980s, with which he performed with Edmond Hall , Albert Nicholas , Wingy Manone , Willie The Lion Smith and Howlin 'Wolf and accompanied Dionne Warwick and the Isley Brothers . From 1978 to 1985 he was a member of Keith Nichols ' band Midnight Follies and in smaller formations under Nichols' direction. From the 1980s on, Elson was also active as a composer and teacher. In 1996 he played with Marty Grosz ( Jazz for Fun ); In 1998 he worked on the album Tribute to Kid Ory by clarinetist Brian White . With Neville Dickies Rhythmakers he was on tour in Canada, with an All Star Band around David Mills in the Middle East.
