Terry Lightfoot
Terry Lightfoot (born May 21, 1935 in Potters Bar , then in Middlesex , now in Hertfordshire , England ; † March 15, 2013 ) was a British clarinetist (also vocals ) and band leader of traditional jazz .
Live and act
Lightfoot, whose younger brother Paddy became known as a banjo player , learned the clarinet at school. At the age of seventeen he directed the Wood Green Stompers and also belonged to the Albemarle Jazz Band before he had to do his military service from 1953 to 1955. In 1955 he founded his own Terry Lightfoot's New Orleans Jazzmen , with whom he turned to the professional scene a year later. His band included musicians like Alan Elsdon and Ginger Baker . The band also performed with American guests such as Kid Ory and Red Allen . He had four chart hits in Great Britain in the early 1960s with the EP Clarinet Jamboree, which he composed with Acker Bilk , and with his recording of the Cole Porter hit True Love , with King Kong and Tavern In The Town . He then temporarily left the music scene to play with Kenny Ball in 1967 . Then he founded his own band again, with which he also appeared in the GDR in 1972 . After another break between 1978 and 1983, during which he worked in the hotel industry, he was active again with his own band.
