Michel Morganella (born May 17, 1989 in Sierre ) is a Swiss football player and has been under contract with Calcio Padova in Italy since January 2019 .

Career

Club career

Morganella played as a midfielder at FC Basel until the end of January 2009. He came from the offspring of FC Sion to FCB, where he played one season each under U-16, U-18 and U-21 until he was accepted into the professional squad at the end of February 2007. In the 2007/08 season Morganella played a game in the Axpo Super League for FC Basel .

At the end of January 2009, the Italian first division club US Palermo signed him, with which he signed a contract that ran until the end of June 2013. After he had completed only two games in Serie A by the end of the 2009/10 season, he was loaned to the second division club Novara Calcio in July 2010 . He spent two years there before going back to Palermo. His contract was not renewed in the summer of 2018 and after he was without a club until October, he joined the Swiss club FC Rapperswil-Jona . But in January 2019 he moved on to the Italian second division club Calcio Padova .

National team career

On August 12, 2009 Morganella made his debut for the Swiss U-21 national team . In the European Championship qualifier against Estonia (0-1) he was put on the starting line-up by coach Pierluigi Tami . On March 29, 2011, in his last game for the U-21 national team against Qatar (5-3), he was again in the starting line-up for Switzerland. In the 59th minute, the referee Khamis al-Marri showed him the red card for assaulting an opponent. Morganella played a total of 219 minutes, or 3 times for the Swiss U-21 national team .

He had to leave early at the 2012 Summer Olympics after insulting the South Korean team on Twitter .

In the friendlies in 2012 against Romania (0: 1) and 2013 against Greece (0: 0) he played in the senior national team .
