Location of the Dr. Dorothea Erxleben barracks in Saxony-Anhalt

The Dr. Dorothea Erxleben barracks was an NVA - and army - barracks in Halle (Saale) . It was built in the 1970s and was named "Dr.-Dorothea-Erxleben-Kaserne" after the fall of the Wall , named after the first German doctor, Dorothea Christiane Erxleben . After the Augusta barracks, it was the second of two barracks in Germany that bear the names of women.

The now abandoned barracks is located in the northern part of the city of Halle, in the Heide-Nord / Blumenau district , on Nordstrasse.

history

The barracks was used by the National People's Army from 1972 and was originally named in 1973 after the German communist Otto Brosowski . The 11th motorized rifle division was housed there until the NVA was dissolved in 1990 . On March 22, 1984, the French member of the military liaison mission Philippe Mariotti was fatally injured during a reconnaissance mission. The goal of this reconnaissance trip was the then Otto Brosowski barracks. From 1990 until 2007, the barracks were used by Medical Battalion 131 (later reclassified to Medical Regiment 13 and from 2003 to Medical Regiment 32 and relocated to Weissenfels in July 2003), Defense District Command 81 and Homeland Security Battalion 41.

Another barracks under the same name and operated as a branch office was in the Trotha district. The branch office was closed in 2004. There the hospital regiment 77 and the reserve hospital group 7701 training were housed, which after relocation of the medical regiment 32 moved to the main location and were also disbanded there.

In 2007 the barracks and the associated site were given up and offered for sale. According to the development plan, the old barracks buildings are to be demolished by the new owner and a high-quality residential area for single-family houses created. The barracks and the associated site were sold to an unknown buyer in May 2010 by the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks . The area has now been completely cleared and built on. Only the sports hall and sports field have been preserved and are still used by local sports clubs.

In 2015, the state of Saxony-Anhalt planned to set up another central initial reception center (ZASt) in the barracks of the former branch in Halle-Trotha and to accommodate up to 2000 refugees there. The buildings there have since been used by various companies. After criticism by the State Audit Office of the contract modalities and due to a lack of transparency, the plans for a ZASt in the former barracks were abandoned at the beginning of 2016.
