Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is an American horror film from 1920. It is a further adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde , should not be confused with the much better known version with John Barrymore in the lead role , published in the same year .

Before the eyes of his butler , the doctor Dr. Jekyll in Mr. Hyde. The butler exclaims in horror that his master is now “the Apostle from Hell!” (“The Apostle of Hell!”). Equipped with fangs and disheveled hair, Hyde roams the city and does all sorts of crimes. The police can finally catch him. The monster is interrogated, taken to prison and finally strapped to the electric chair. The next moment, Jekyll, slumbering in a chair, wakes up from a nightmare and exclaims with relief: “I believe in God! I have a soul ... "(" I believe in God! I have a soul ... ") and, under the impression of the dream, decides not to carry out his intended chemistry experiment.

Film producer Louis Meyer was due to copyright infringements of the rotated in the same year full-length Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920) by John S. Robertson set the plot in New York and the main story deviate at crucial points. The end product was so disastrous that director J. Charles Haydon had his name removed from production.
