Dr. Ulrich Undeutsch is a German punk band from Grünhainichen . The punk band, actually only known regionally, became known throughout Germany after the Constitutional Protection of Saxony mentioned them in their reports as a left-wing extremist band.

Band history

Dr. Ulrich Undeutsch was founded in 2007. The band is mainly active in the Erzgebirge district . In 2015 she released her album Potatoes differently through Bandcamp . Around the same time, the band, or the “left-wing extremist music scene” in its entirety, became the object of observation for the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony. On the historically very important May 8th, 2020, the 75th anniversary of the liberation from National Socialism , the band released their second album Stets Effective.

The band was mentioned in the 2017 report on the protection of the constitution of the Free State of Saxony and in the report on the protection of the constitution of Bavaria 2017 under the heading "Left-wing extremist music". The reason given was that “the band would expressly [represent] positions of the autonomous scene, whereby the rejection of the democratic constitutional state is repeatedly expressed. The Federal Republic of Germany is equated there with the National Socialist dictatorship . ”In addition, the band propagates“ not only violence, especially against police officers, but also explicitly calls on third parties to act violently, including using weapons, against those who think differently ”. The two titles state authority and appeal were quoted .

In a statement on observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the band from Jungle World is quoted as saying: “We find it unspeakable that in a constitutional state whose predecessor regime was responsible for the Holocaust of millions of people, a state authority that protects the constitution to ensure that anti-fascism is perceived as a threat. "

The observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution also became known through a broadcast from the MDR , which has since been removed. There was criticism of the MDR's contribution from many sides. At the beginning of February 2019, the MDR conducted an interview with the author of the article in response to the information. Whether and to what extent the criticism was recognized as justified can no longer be determined - the post was deleted as usual after seven days

The mention in the report for the protection of the constitution has been provisionally declared unlawful by the VG Dresden , as it violates the band's basic right to artistic freedom. As a result, the relevant passage has to be deleted from the report. The acknowledgment decisions (Az.K 6K11119 / 19) for the bands Dr. Ulrich Undeutsch, East German Beauties, Endstation Chaos and One Step Ahead, whose data had to be deleted in three cases: in the Constitutional Protection Report for 2018, in a document on “left-wing extremism in Saxony” and in an overview of “left-wing extremist” bands. took place after the constitution protection had recognized the demands of the bands without restrictions. Whether an observation of political music groups by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is even covered by the German Basic Law is a matter of dispute among lawyers. In this context, the judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court from the year 2000 on the song “Germany must die so we can live” by the band “ Slime ” is considered to be trend-setting . Whether the observation of anti-fascist musicians is legally compliant by secret service means has to be decided in future trials
