Drachenhort is a fantasy board game by Dan Glimne and Jakob Bonz .

Dragon Lair initial situation

The game was released in Sweden in 1985 as Drakborgen by the Swedish game publisher Alga , which had recently been taken over by the toy manufacturer Brio . Alga brought out a Danish version as Drageborgen and a Norwegian version as Skatten i borrow in 1987 . In the same year, an English version was published as a dungeon quest by the British game manufacturer Games Workshop . Schmidt Spiele then brought out a German version in 1990 as a dragon hoard.

Content and accessories

In addition to the 70 × 50 cm game board and the 4 plastic playing figures , some of which have different talents, as is usual in pen & paper role-playing games , the game box also contains 81 room parts and 70 room cards. This includes a total of 98 other cards that are used for treasure hunts, for opening doors or fighting, as well as for displaying traps, monsters and treasures. 2 dice, 7 wooden markers and 7 ring representations complete the material.

It is a fantasy - board game with a variable game board. One to four players lead their character through a dungeon (dungeon, dungeon), where they are threatened by all kinds of monsters and traps, collect as many treasures as possible and leave the dungeon alive. You have 26 rounds available for this. The sun stone is advanced by one hour in each round. When the sun goes down, anyone who doesn't make it to the exit dies. Every time a player wants to enter a new room, they must draw a room card to determine what is in that room. The greatest treasures can of course be found in the treasury guarded by a dragon . From there, however, it's a long way back to the exit. The chances of reaching and surviving the treasury are under 50%.

particularities

If a character encounters a monster, he can choose to fight or flee. The fight is carried out according to the principle of scissors, stone, paper game and if the player loses them, life points are deducted, which is shown by the wooden markers on the character sheets. One pawn, the elf , can even handle the bow.

In contrast to a pen & paper role-playing game, the individual at Drachenhort has hardly any freedom of action. The cards largely determine fate. Sometimes the game ends prematurely when it is no longer possible to escape from a room.

Extensions

In 1987, Alga brought out an extension called Drakborgen II . Games Workshop split up this expansion and then released it as Heroes for Dungeonquest (1987) and Dungeonquest: Catacombs (1988) expansions .

New editions

In 2010 the game was reissued under the title DungeonQuest in English by Fantasy Flight Games and under the same English title by Heidelberger Spieleverlag .
