The Drago Milenario is a Canarian dragon tree ( Dracaena draco ) in the northwestern municipality of Icod de los Vinos on the Canary island of Tenerife . It has been a national monument since 1917 and, alongside the Teide, one of the most famous symbols of the island. In addition to numerous paintings and postage stamps, the tree was also depicted on the 1000 peseta note . He can also be seen in the coat of arms of Icod de los Vinos. The name Drago Milenario is derived from the Spanish word drago for dragon tree and the initially assumed age of over 1000 years. Today the age is estimated at around 300 to 800 years. The tree is about 16 meters high and about six meters in circumference. It is the largest and most famous dragon tree in the Canaries.

Parque del Drago

A park was created around the tree, which was designed from 1997 to 2007 by professors from the University of La Laguna . Many different plants typical of the region around Icod or endemic to the Canary Islands or Tenerife have been planted in the park . The park offers multilingual tours. You have to pay to enter the park, locals can visit it for free.
