Dragomir Milošević ( Serbian - Cyrillic Драгомир Милошевић ; born February 4, 1942 in Murgaš , zu Ub , Yugoslavia ) is a former general of the Vojska Republike Srpske , who was convicted of war crimes during the siege of Sarajevo .

Life

Dragomir Milošević served as an officer in the 49th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav People's Army before the outbreak of the Bosnian War .

On May 20, 1992, the armed forces that surrounded the city of Sarajevo in the course of the Bosnian War were combined to form the Romanija Corps of Sarajevo and henceforth formed an important part of the VRS, which was under the command of Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić . The headquarters of the Romanija Corps was in the barracks of Lukavica, southwest of Sarajevo. The Romanija Corps employed a military strategy aimed at killing, maiming, wounding and terrorizing the civilian population of Sarajevo. From September 10, 1992 to August 10, 1994, the almost 18,000-strong unit was commanded by Stanislav Galić , before Dragomir Milošević took over command and held it until the end of the fighting in November 1995. He continued his predecessor's terrorist attacks with undiminished severity and had modified cluster bombs used for the first time . By snipers , grenades and bombs about 12,000 people of both sexes and all ages were killed in Sarajevo. In addition, symbolic and cultural buildings and facilities were targeted.

After a long flight, Dragomir Milošević surrendered to the Serbian authorities voluntarily in 2004 and was transferred to the ICTY , where he was sentenced to 33 years in prison on December 12, 2007 for crimes against humanity and for violating the laws and customs of war. The appeal chamber reduced the sentence to 29 years because the public prosecutor's office was unable to prove beyond doubt that Milošević had personally planned and ordered snipers to fire on civilians.
