Dragonsfire is a German power metal band from Riedstadt in Hessen .

Band history

Dragonsfire was founded in 2005 by Peter Kalabis (vocals), Thassilo Herbert ( vocals , bass ), Matthias Bludau ( guitar ), Thorsten Brand (guitar) and Jan Müller ( drums ). Herbert, Bludau and Brand were previously active together in a power metal band called Dark Fortress (not to be confused with Dark Fortress from Landshut). In 2005 they released the demo Burning for Metal . In 2006 singer Peter Kalabis dropped out. After a singer was found in Kathi Hessler from January to April 2007, bassist Herbert took over the vocals. In 2007 Thorsten Brand had to leave the band for health reasons and was eventually replaced by Timo Rauscher. In the years after the first demo, the band played constantly live and wrote new songs despite the line-up problems. In 2007 it was decided to record a CD.

The band got a record deal with the independent label Pure Steel Records . Her debut album Visions of Fire was released there in December 2008 . The band then played as the opening act for Wizard , Mystic Prophecy and Cage , as well as their own gigs. The album Metal Service followed in 2010 . Founding member Matthias Bludau left the band in 2011 and was replaced by Oliver Brandt. On April 13, 2013, the EP Speed Demon was released as an in-house production on the newly founded label TTH Media. After completing the studio recordings, guitarist Oliver Brandt announced that he was leaving the band. He was replaced by Sebastian Bach, who previously played with Minotaur . In 2014 Dragonsfire released their single "Cider Victims" as split vinyl together with the heavy metal band Steelpreacher from Koblenz . On January 1st, 2015 the EP "Metal X" was released on the occasion of the tenth anniversary. Singer Thassilo Herbert died only seven days later.

After a break of several months, the band returned to the stage in May 2015 as headliners at the sold-out A Chance For Metal festival. This performance took place with several guest singers. One of them, Frank Richter, was finally introduced as the new singer. Since then, founding member Matthias Bludau has been an integral part of the band again as one of three guitarists now. In the spring of 2016, Frank Richter decided to leave the band. Tim Zahn took over the role of singer and bassist in October 2016. At the end of 2016 the single "Back to Battle" was released under the new line-up.

At the end of 2017 the band separated from Tim Zahn and presented Peter "Scheter" Schäfer as the new bass player. Since the singer was missing at this point in time, the band members decided to sing the upcoming shows themselves. A recommendation from Schäfer made people aware of Dennis Ohler, who took over the role of singer at the beginning of 2018. In the same year the band announced that they would record a live DVD together with Steelpreacher and Secutor on December 29, 2018 at the JUZ Live Club Andernach.

Music genre

Dragonsfire play Power Metal / Speed Metal in the style of bands like Manowar , Iron Maiden , Motörhead and Grave Digger . Their style is sometimes referred to as "Old School Metal" or " True Metal ", the band itself simply prefers " Heavy Metal ". The lyrics are intentionally full of the usual metal clichés, but are deliberately ironic and humorous. Singer Herbert's vocals are uncharacteristically a bit rough in Power Metal, in the style of Motörhead and Sabaton . The band's trademark is an oversized “ French fries fork ” as an allusion to the hand sign Mano cornuta , which is used during live performances, but is also used as a logo.
