Draka was a Dutch company that manufactured cables for a wide variety of areas such as telecommunications and automobiles . It was the sixth largest cable manufacturer in the world.

history

Draka was founded in 1910 by Jan Teewis Duyvis under the name Hollandsche Draad & Kabel Fabriek ( Dutch wire and cable factory ). In 1970 the company was bought by Philips and incorporated into the corporate structure as Draka Kabel . In 1986 Draka became independent again through financing from Parcom and Flint Beheer, although some parts (Alkor Draka, Draka Interfoam) were sold by Philips to Solvay .

From 1991 to 2010 the company was listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange .

In 2008 Draka was active in 30 countries at 68 locations. The development and manufacture of cables was divided into the segments “Energy and Infrastructure”, “Communication” and “Industry and Special Areas”.

In 2009 Prysmian made a takeover offer and was able to prevail in a bidding battle against Nexans . On November 22nd, 2010 the offer of € 17.20 per share (9.1 × EBITDA) was accepted and the world's largest cable manufacturer was created .
