The Dras War Memorial , also known as the Kargil War Memorial or Vijaypath , is an Indian Army war memorial located near Dras in Ladakh , India. The memorial is located on Tololing Hill across from Tiger Hill , five kilometers from Dras on Srinagar - Leh National Highway 1D . At this point, the soldiers and officers of the Indian army who fell during the Kargil War between India and Pakistan in 1999 are honored. The memorial consists of a large epitaph with the names of all the dead Indian army personnel from the war.

Remembrance Day of the conflict is celebrated on July 26th each year, when the Indian Prime Minister pays his last respects to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyothi at India Gate , New Delhi .

The main attraction of the monument is the sandstone wall with the names of the soldiers. From the monument you can also see some of the peaks that the Indian army conquered from the Pakistani army. An Indian flag weighing 15 kg was hoisted at the memorial on the 13th anniversary of the Indian victory.

Manoj Pandey War Gallery

The gallery is named after Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey . He was an officer in the Indian Army in Regiment 1/11 of the Gorkha Rifles . He was posthumously awarded India's highest military honor, the Param Vir Chakra , for valor and leadership in combat. In the gallery you can see pictures of soldiers deployed in the mountains as well as weapons that were captured from the Pakistani troops. The gallery also features a picture of Pakistani officer Capitain Karnal Sher Khan of the Northern Light Infantry. The Indian army was so impressed by his appearance that they applied to honor him with the Nishan-e-Haider , Pakistan's highest military honor. Khan was awarded posthumously.
