Overbuilding through the Inzersdorf junction

The Draschepark is a 13-  hectare park in Inzersdorf in the 23rd district of Liesing in Vienna . The name of the park refers to the Drasche von Wartinberg family , who had owned the two castles on the site since 1857.

History of the park

Both palaces in the park, the moated castle Inzersdorf from the 17th century and the new castle southwest of it from 1765, were damaged by bombs in the Second World War and finally completely demolished in 1965 during the construction of the Vienna Südosttangente . The park directly around the two castles originally consisted of a late Baroque ornamental garden and an area with fruit trees, kitchen gardens and meadows. The other area of the property was criss-crossed by regular aisles as a forest park in the Franziszeischen Cadastre from 1818. The castle park, originally laid out in baroque form, was partially built over with a motorway junction ("Inzersdorf junction").

today

The old landscaping is only recognizable through the chestnut avenues and field maple hedges. There was natural shrub cover in the areas . The creeks Altmannsdorfer Graben and Liesing received artificial beds. Barbecue areas, playgrounds and a BMX track were created for recreational use. In summer there is an open-air cinema in the Draschepark .
