The Three Monarchs Memorial

The meeting of the three monarchs took place on October 26, 1813 in Dornheim in Thuringia in what is now the Ilm district .

After the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , the following monarchs met under a linden tree at the eastern exit of Dornheim:

These three allied heads of state met for a military policy consultation on how to proceed against Napoleon's troops . The Austrian Emperor stayed at the Dornheim manor with Christian Gottfried Schierholz . The Austrian army camped between Dornheim and Arnstadt , the Russian guard bivouacked between Dornheim and Kirchheim .

The "Three Monarchs Monument" in Dornheim commemorates the meeting. It was built in 1863, expanded in 1913, fell into disrepair during the Soviet Zone and GDR and was restored in 1991 by committed citizens. A new linden tree has also been planted.

According to research by Jürgen Frey from 2013, the Prussian king could not have been in Dornheim on October 26, 1813, so that it would have been just a "meeting of two monarchs". The participation of the Prussian Crown Prince, later King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, is considered possible.
